Manhattan has all the skyscrapers and rooftops of Gotham but a surprising lack of gargoyles. It's as if the city wasn't designed for people to lurk above it. Also: way fewer abandoned amusement parks, broken down toy factories, anything that just screams 'build an evil lair inside me'. Steph hasn't checked, but she's positive that the only crocodiles living in the sewers are not human mutants who also serve as mob enforcers. She doesn't know if the lack of these things makes her like New York or miss Gotham even more.
Her sight-seeing has been strictly ground level thanks to her injuries, which had induced a major many-day pity party earlier in the month. A real city with real rooftops and she couldn't go swinging in it, so so unfair. It still sucks, but Steph's mostly over it now. She is a bounce back kind of girl.
The compromise has been finding the best building with roof access that's high enough to give a good view. Also the one with the best security, just to give herself a challenge. She manages it, of course, total piece of cake thanks to her stealthy ways, and at the appropriate hour slips onto the rooftop. She's still on crutches but moves on them like a pro by now and is all decked out for the winter weather with more scarf and hat than any one person could ever need.
All ready for date night.

She curls her fingers into Cass's sweater while they kiss but lets herself pull back. When Cass starts grinning she does too, because that smile promises something interesting. "Absolutely yes I do."

Cass swung her leg over and back onto the roof before she went to get the present. A swing, sturdy and secure which Cass would hook up to a series of metal poles that were across the building. The swing would swing Steph out above the city before bringing her back to the roof. She grinned at Steph clipping the swing in place, testing it before she nodded at her.
"As close as I can get for now," Cass said with a smile, offering her hand to Steph.

Then she grasps Cass's hand and hops down so she can gather up in a tight hug. "Holy shit, Cass."
no subject
Cassandra had knew what it was not because of how it reminded her of Dick but the letters. She had recognised the letters, she had read them all by herself. It had made her feel proud for a moment.
"Are you going to try it?"
no subject
"Hell yes I'm going to try it." Steph checks the harness and the swing and quickly works out the gist of it. She hooks the harness onto her a little more tightly than attaches the clasps onto the swing. "Does this seat two?"
no subject
She smiled, light and cheeky before shrugging her shoulder at the question. She hadn't asked, she supposed it could if it was used in what Dick had done in the circus.
"Let's try it, you first though. I want to see how sloppy you've got Batgirl," Cass said, voice a little stern though her lips were all smiles.

The harness is already hooked up to a line that connects a few buildings over, but as Steph hooks herself on she keeps her eyes fixed on the landing point. That's the key to using grapple guns and all the ways Bats keep themselves flying: before you move you need to know where you're trying to get to. Once she's all set to fly Steph shoots Cass a grin. "I never get sloppy."
no subject
"Hn, your kisses are sloppy." Cass replied teasing as she turned her head to kiss her before waiting for Steph to go first. She'd follow, make sure she was safe.

Rushing through the air and the wind in her hair is as exhilarating as ever and Steph grins as the city rushes past below her. She misses this- there's nothing like it on the island. When the swing slows Steph undoes the straps and gets down easily enough then pushes it back toward Cass.
no subject
Cass was teasing but she didn't wait until the swing was all the way across before leaping and grasping the edge of the swing. She swung back and forth before smoothly swinging up onto the seat. Cass swung elegantly back and landed lightly, showing off a little for Steph.

Cass shook her head, wrapping her arms around Steph and enjoying the heat from her body pressed against hers. "No... what was he like?"
no subject
Steph puts her hand over Cass's and leans against her comfortably. "It was a little weird. He looked the part but also not, you know? Batman actually smiled but, man, when he went full-on Bat mode on you it worked." She smiles a little. "Him and Damian made a good Dynamic Duo."
no subject
"Kiss, I watched them kiss. I didn't realise that was what they meant to each other for a while. I didn't realise that was what that body language meant." Cass replied, bending her head to rub her cold nose against Steph's much warmer neck. Brushing a kiss against her neck, Cass tightened her arms a little around Steph and held her close. "Batman... smiled? Hn. I will have words with Dick when I see him. Batman should not smile."
Cassandra made a tch noise, a little too like Damian before smiling. "Damian is good. He would make a good Robin hn or Batman."
no subject
"You know, you say that but it really worked," Steph says thinking back to her few outings with Dick as Batman. "He was a different flavor Batman, but he got the job done."
Then she smiles. Yeah, Damian is a little demon brat at times, but at this point he's her little demon brat. She's gone and gotten fond. "He's a good Robin. Way different, he would probably drive Bruce bonkers. But good."
no subject
"That you're happy with me, that you feel happy and comfortable around me. And hn, love. That too," Cass said. Reading people wasn't as descriptive as words, it was hard to place words to actions but she knew the meaning well enough. She knew what Steph meant at least with her body. Cass slid her colder hands beneath Steph's clothes and pressed her cold fingertips against her back before grinning at her. "Me too."
She couldn't imagine Dick as Batman, not her Dick at least. Not the brother figure who read her stories and fussed a little as if she was a normal girl and who had made her feel like... part of the family. She couldn't imagine him as Batman yet.
"Of course he is good, he's like me. Smarter though," Cass said, a little proud. She didn't think of it as her own failing, she knew how they were raised. Damian was supposed to lead and Cass was supposed to serve just like their parents. "Hn, I never drove Bruce bonkers. Except when I dated Kon. Then he made... faces. And threats to Superman."
no subject
"I don't know about smarter, but I know he is definitely snottier." Also snobbier. And grumpier. Really, the differences between Cass and Damian were huge. But he's getting better! Sort of.
"Pretty sure all I have done ever is drive Bruce bonkers," Steph says, but wryly and almost fondly. They'd moved past some of their issues. "It is a Robin's job to drive Batman bonkers. Now c'mon, we going to go soaring again or can we get off this cold rooftop so we can cuddle somewhere warmer?"
no subject
Cass ducked her head slightly shyly.

Then she squeezes Cass's hand hopping back and going for her crutches. "C'mon, let's get out of here. I've got sexy yet comfy pajamas at home."
no subject
"Who said you will need pajamas?" Cass asked, with a slightly teasing smile. She waited for Steph to grab her crutches before going to hold open the door.
no subject
"Catch a cab back and stay at yours so we don't scandalize Damian?" It's not a big deal either way, as they live next door, but Steph likes to minimize the awkward where possible.

They get into the elevator and head down to the lobby, and Steph pulls Cass close by the jacket. "Getting a hotel room makes it seem like this is a sexy hook-up. I kinda like it."
no subject
Cass smiled as Steph pulled her close. Turning her chin up a little, she made a soft noise before brushing her lips against Steph's.
"Of course it's a sexy hook up, it's with you." Cass murmured. "And we can order food and leave a mess and not have to tidy up."
no subject
But she still kisses Cass again as the elevator door opens. "That sounds awesome. Let's get a room."
no subject
Cass pressed her forehead against Steph's, leaning forward slightly. Pulling back she pressed a kiss against Steph's lips before letting her gather herself and follow her to reception. "We could even get the penthouse, we don't actually pay here."
no subject
"Ooooh, penthouse. I agree." They get out to the lobby and Steph hobbles up to the reception desk as the girl behind it fades into being corporeal. "We would like the fanciest room you have, please. Emphasis on the fancy."
no subject
Cass tended to prefer two hour showers, as Tim could have attested to, but she didn't mind having a bubble bath if it meant having one with Steph.
"The best please," Cass said as the fade in and out girl handed Cass a set of keys. "How fancy do you think fancy is?"
no subject
They get the keys and head back the way they came. "Fancy enough to have its own elevator." The penthouse elevator was, indeed, fancy all by itself, and Steph unlocked it before gesturing for Cass to go in. "After you, madam."
no subject
Cass smiled, reaching for Steph before kissing her as the doors slid shut. Smiling against Steph's lips, she murmured a sweet noise before turning her attention to show Steph how she felt with her lips.
no subject
At first it's just a soft, everyday sort of kiss but then Cass makes that happy sound and part of her just melts. Steph wraps her good arm around her and opens her mouth into the kiss because, really, Cass loves her and Steph loves her right back. She doesn't even notice when the elevator dings open.
